(재)광주비엔날레는 지역에서 동시대 현대미술 활동을 이어가는 작가를 소개하고 만나는 지역작가연구프로그램 「작가스튜디오탐방」을 매년 진행하고 있습니다. 23년도는 온라인 프로그램을, 24년도는 온·오프라인 프로그램을 모두 운영합니다.
The Gwangju Biennale Foundation introduces and connects with local artists who are engaged in contemporary art activities in the region, and it conducts the annual research program on local artist, 「Artist Studio Visit」. In 2023, we will operate online programs, and in 2024, we will operate both online and offline programs.

2024년 3월까지 참여 작가의 작업을 소개하는 15분 내외의 인터뷰 영상을 매월 마지막 날 (재)광주비엔날레 공식 유튜브 채널에서 공개합니다.
Until March 2024, 15-minute interviews introducing the artist's work will be featured, and these videos will be released on the last day of each month on the official Gwangju Biennale YouTube channel.

A. Hello, My name is Kim Sangyeon and I’m an artist based in Gwangju.
I primarily engage in painting and installation art, with a focus on blending these techniques to create works that incorporate mixed media.

Q. 작업을 할 때 고민하는 지점은 무엇인가요?

A. 일단 저는 실제 보이는 것을 가지고 그림 활동을 하는데 실제 보이는 것에 대한 의문점들이 많이 생겼어요.
보이는 것이 전부가 아니라 보이는 것 이면에 내포되어 있는 게 무엇일까?
그리고 실제로 작업을 하고 있는 것도 실제 우리가 보이는 사물을 가지고 어떻게 생각할 것인가, 그러한 생각을 다시 화면에 옮기는 작업을 하고 있습니다.

A. Initially, my artistic endeavors were grounded in depicting the tangible world, which led me to question the essence of the visible.
It’s not solely about visibility; I often ponder what lies hidden behind the observable. The essence of my current work remains focused on interpreting and conceptualizing the physical objects around us, and meticulously translating these concepts onto the canvas, defining the nature of my artistic practice.
