(재)광주비엔날레는 지역에서 동시대 현대미술 활동을 이어가는 작가를 소개하고 만나는 지역작가연구프로그램 「작가스튜디오탐방」을 매년 진행하고 있습니다. 23년도는 온라인 프로그램을, 24년도는 온·오프라인 프로그램을 모두 운영합니다.
The Gwangju Biennale Foundation introduces and connects with local artists engaged in contemporary art activities in the region, and it conducts the annual research program on local artist, 「Artist Studio Visit」. In 2023, we operated online programs, and in 2024, we operated both online and offline programs.

2024년 3월까지 참여 작가의 작업을 소개하는 15분 내외의 인터뷰 영상을 매월 마지막 날 (재)광주비엔날레 공식 유튜브 채널에서 공개합니다.
Until March 2024, 15-minute interviews introducing the artist's work were featured, and these videos were released on the last day of each month on the official Gwangju Biennale YouTube channel.

Q. 작업을 할 때 고민하는 지점은 무엇인가요?
What themes do you explore? |

A. 평면 회화 안에 이야기를 어떻게 담을 수 있을까 고민하면서 이야기를 전달하는 그림, 그 방식을 고민하면서 작업을 하고 있어요.
주변의 익숙한 풍경들 속에서 낯섦이 느껴지는 그런 흔적들, 그것들을 찾아 제 그림으로 옮겨내고 있습니다. |
A. These days, I’m less focused on messages and instead aim to capture a story in two-dimensional painting. So I’m exploring ways of telling stories through painting.
There are traces of the unfamiliar that you can sense in the familiar landscapes that surround you. I’m trying to discover those elements and incorporate them into my paintings. |

Q. 작품 속 ‘아이러니’함에 대하여?
‘Irony’ in your work? |

|
A. 사람들이 무엇인가 이상함을 느낄 수 있게끔 메시지를 담으려고 했고, 그렇게 작업을 하다가 이상하다는 것 혹은 아이러니한 점들을 ‘왜 느낄까?’라는 생각을 많이 했어요.
‘왜 나는 이런 작업을 하고 있지?’ 이런 고민 끝에, 정답은 아니겠지만 제가 다다른 결론이 저 스스로 저란 사람이 갖고 있는 모순된 지점들을 많이 보고 있던 것 같아요. |
A. I would try to evoke a feeling of strangeness among viewers. This was my approach for a time, and it led me to ask “why”: why it was that it felt strange or ironic.
Why was I doing that kind of work? And while you can’t say it’s necessarily the right answer, I arrived at a point where I was really examining the contradictory aspects within myself as a person. |
